Manage your finances with a balance transfer

Transfer a balance to your Fluid card from the majority of UK credit cards.

Transferring balances to your Fluid credit card can help make it easier to manage your finances, and it can be done in one phone call. You could save money when you consolidate your borrowing by transferring any outstanding balances from other cards that you have.

How it works

Each transfer must be a minimum of £100. Each time you make a balance transfer you’ll be charged a fee.

You can transfer more than one balance but only up to 90% of your available credit limit.

All balance transfers and transfer fees must be within the 90% available credit limit. If the amount you want to transfer exceeds the limit, we may allow you to transfer part of the balance.

How to make a balance transfer

Once you’ve activated your card, call us on 0333 414 1098* and tell us you’d like to make a balance transfer.

Give us the details (16 digit card number) of the card/s you want to transfer the balance/s from, and transfer anything from £100 up to 90% of your available credit limit (including fees).

It normally takes three hours for a Balance Transfer to be completed, depending on the processing times and type of payment process employed by your bank. Outside of working days or after 3pm on working days, and on Bank Holidays and weekends, your Balance Transfer will be processed on the next working day.

* Calls to 0333 numbers are charged at a standard national rate. Call costs from mobile companies and operators may vary so please check before calling.

How much it costs

You will need to pay a fee which will be a percentage of the amount you transfer. We’ll add the amount you transfer and the fee to your card balance and the balance transfer interest rate will be charged from the date the balance is transferred to your Fluid account.

What else do I need to know?

  • You can transfer balances from the majority of UK credit cards.
  • You cannot transfer balances from store cards or any other card provided by NewDay.
  • You will need to be the primary cardholder to transfer a balance.
  • You should continue making monthly repayments to your existing card provider until the balance transfer shows on the card account you hold with them.

If you only make the minimum payment each month, make sure you can afford the increase in your monthly payments after the transfer.

However, if you are able to repay more than your minimum payments each month, you’ll bring your balance down sooner and it will cost you less.

  • If you have a Direct Debit set up in your Fluid account to pay off your balance in full each month, you can call us on 0333 414 1090* to amend your Direct Debit so that you can take full advantage of your balance transfer.
  • If you do not pay your balance in full every month (including your balance transfer), you’ll be charged interest at your standard purchase rate on any subsequent purchases. That’s because we charge interest on purchases from the day the transaction appears on your account, until you’ve paid your whole balance in full, which includes the balance transfer.

What do I need to know if I have a promotional balance transfer rate?

  • If you have a promotional rate, the promotional rate and term will apply from the date you opened your account if you are a new customer, or from the date the balance is transferred to your Fluid account if you are an existing customer. The date your balance transfer promotional rate expires can be found on your statement. Otherwise you can call our customer service team on 0333 414 1090* to find out when your promotional rate expires.
  • All balance transfers are subject to our approval. You must keep to the terms & conditions of your account to remain eligible for this offer.
  • You will lose your promotional rate if you go over your credit limit or don't make your minimum payment on time each month. The standard balance transfer rate would then apply.
  • At the end of the promotional period, your applicable standard balance transfer rate will apply to any remaining balance.

* Calls to 0333 numbers are charged at a standard national rate. Call costs from mobile companies and operators may vary so please check before calling.

A: No, not once you’ve asked us to transfer the balance. And unfortunately we can’t refund the fee.

Q: Where can I see my promotional balance transfer interest rate?

A: If you’ve just received your new Fluid card and we’ve offered you a promotional interest rate for balance transfers, it’ll be on the terms & conditions that we sent with your new card.

If you’re already a Fluid card customer, we may have sent you a letter or email offering you a promotional balance transfer interest rate. This will explain what the rate is and when your offer starts and ends.

You can also ask us what the rate is when you call to make a transfer. And of course if you make a balance transfer we’ll make sure it’s included afterwards on your statement.

Q: Can I lose my promotional balance transfer interest rate?

A: Yes, if you have a promotional balance transfer, you can lose your promotional balance transfer interest rate if:

  • You don’t make at least your minimum monthly payments on time and/or

At the end of your promotional period, or at the point your promotional rate is withdrawn, your standard balance transfer rate will apply to any remaining balance.
